Since my school and college days Elle 18 has been a favourite when it comes to nail paints. Because, Elle 18 being a sister concern of reputed makeup brand Lakme offers a large number of very affordable and beginner-friendly cosmetics. Today I will be reviewing 3 nail paints named as Nail Pops by Elle 18 in the shades 70, 05 and 33. Whenever I wish to try a new nail colour I buy that shade or its nearest match from Elle 18. It helps me to decide if it looks good on me. I do not want to invest in some ‘big price tag’ product that I am not sure I will like or not. That is how these three cuties got entry to my vanity. Ingredients: Not Mentioned

Price: Rs.50 for 5ml

Shelf Life: 36 months from the date of packaging

How to Use: Cleanse your nails with nail paint remover thoroughly to get rid of old nail colours first. Apply a base coat and then paint your nails with desired colour. 2-3 coat will give you full coverage. Lock the colour with a top coat to prevent chipping.

Packaging/Availability: The Nail colours of Elle 18 come in bulbous glass bottles with black plastic screw cap. The medium thick applicator brush is attached to the lid for convenient application. The cap bears an attractive cartoon depicting a girl. The label graphics makes the total packaging very girly and funky. It’s like a treat for my eyes as I am a lover of chic packaging. The packaging is fuss-free, leak-proof and easy-to-carry. However, the eyeliners of this brand also come in similar packaging so, the eyeliners and the nail paints become indistinguishable sometimes. Other than this problem, I could not find any con with the packaging. These nail paints are widely available online and offline. In the beauty stores of my place, the Lakme counters keep these.

Texture: The Elle 18 nail colours have medium consistency; not too thin and drippy but not too thick either.

Fragrance: These are not fragrant nail paints so, they have the typical acetone type smell that every other under 100 bucks nail colours seem to have.

Shade: The shades of this nail paint range are marked by numbers instead of names. The shades I would be talking about are,

Shade 70– It is a bright coral orange shade perfect for applying alone or in nail arts. This pastel shade will make a perfect summer shade for every skin tone.

Shade 05– This shade a gorgeous golden shade with brown undertones. This shade is good for achieving subtle yet elegant look. It makes a nice party shade as well.

Shade 33– It is a vampy oxblood shade. This kind of shade is often categorized as wintry shade but it looks good on every skin tone and every season. When I get bad tans all over my hand, I apply this shade to shift the attention!

Colour Pay-off: Colour payoff of these nail paints have astonished me I must say! In one coat itself the original shade comes out in my nails. I have at least 10-15 shades from this range and each of them has similar colour-payoff irrespective of the tone i.e. lightness or darkness of the shade. These nail paints clearly beats the Maybelline Color Show range on the pigmentation department.

Staying Power: These nail paints easily last 3-4 days without any topcoat (if you are not into household chores that much!). In this department also Maybelline gets beaten because they seem to chip within 2-3 days without top coat.

Effectiveness: As I have mentioned earlier, I have tried lots of shades from Elle 18 and appreciated them as well. There are plenty of room for your trials-and errors because the shade range is quite large. I am not very good at nail arts. So, to have funky nails I have to rely on the shade I am selecting for my nails. The shades I have selected to review today are my favourites for this summer. Two things I absolutely adore about these nail paints is that they do not look chalky at all and the dark shades do not stain my nails. They look quite elegant and can easily compete with any 200-300 bucks nail paints in terms of colour pay-off. In my opinion for the price point, these nail paints are steal deals.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION: I would recommend this to everyone from beginners to nail-art pros who want good quality nail paints under INR 100 with excellent colour-payoff and staying power.
