In 2016, Garnier launched the Ultra Blends collection containing 5 sets of paraben free shampoos and conditioners. These haircare items use a food grade preservative Sodium Benzoate in place of various paraben compounds. I always prefer skin and haircare products that are effective as well as eye-candy. Garnier’s Fructis range is one of my favourites in haircare. So, I have been trying out all the variants of this new Ultra Blends range one by one for some time now. Currently these shampoo and conditioner combo is being sold on limited period offer kits where you buy the shampoo and you will get a conditioner from the same variant free. Today I am present my views on Intense Repair Soy Milk & Almonds Shampoo and Conditioner kit which was a birthday gift☺. Let’s continue with the review.

Garnier Ultra Blends Intense Repair Soy Milk & Almonds Shampoo

Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Dimethicone, Cocamide MEA, Glycol Distearate, Coco-betaine, Sodium benzoate, Sodium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein,  Sodium hydroxide, PPG-5-CETETH-20, Polyquaternium-6, Salicylic Acid, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Carbomer, Sorbitol, Citric Acid, Laureth-23, Laureth-4, Coumarin, Sweet Almond Oil, Hexyl Cinnamal (C187329/1)

Price: Rs.120 for 175ml

Shelf Life: 36 months from the date of packaging

How to Use: Take out desired amount of shampoo from the bottle and dilute it with a little water. Apply to the hair concentrating on the roots. The product left in your hand should be used to cleanse the end of your hair where the dryness is highest.

Packaging/Availability: Garnier has colour-coded their new Ultra Blends series products variant wise. Both of the products from the Soy Milk & Almonds range, i.e. the shampoo and the conditioner are packaged in off-white plastic flip-open bottles in resemblance of Soy-beans. The opening of each bottle is covered with shiny golden plastic cap that has emblem of a leaf. The packaging is leak-proof, travel-safe and easy-to-use. Garnier has really worked on the aestheticism as well as the utility of both the products which gets a big applause from me.

Regarding the availability, these products are widely available in everywhere in India. They have designed 3-4 sizes and sachets for everyone’s convenience. You are sure to find them online and offline with discounts.

Colour: This shampoo is slightly off-white in colour but, it looks white in the picture swatch.

Texture: The consistency of this shampoo is not very thick; it is on the runny side. The texture is smooth and moderate lather producing.

Fragrance: It has subtle vanilla fragrance. The fragrance is not very long staying like the Royal Jelly & Lavender variant from the same range.

Suitability: This Soy Milk enriched shampoo will work best on normal to moderately dry hair with naturally straight hair. Very oily scalp people would have to increase the amount of shampoo per use to remove the excess sebum.

Effectiveness: I am using this shampoo 3 times a week for the past two months. Let me tell you how I feel about it. It cleans my oily scalp and dry-strands hair very well. If I have done heavy oiling prior to hair wash I only require two washes to get rid of all the oil and accumulated dirt. One thing I noticed with this product; it is not that much moisturizing like some other damaged hair shampoos (Dove, L’Oreal etc.). The support of conditioner becomes extremely important to tackle my stubborn freezes. However, its cleansing power is helping me to keep my scalp clean for 2 days. I have not experienced any miracle after using it for time span of 2 months, but it I haven’t notice any excess hairfall, dandruff and itchiness in my scalp as well. So, for me it’s just another shampoo. I have experienced better results with other variants of this range.

RATING: 3.75/5

Garnier Ultra Blends Intense Repair Soy Milk & Almonds Conditioner

Ingredients: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerine, Amodimethicone, hydroxyethylcellulose, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, stearyl alcohol, behentrimonium chloride, trideceth-6, chlorhexidine digluconate, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, Glycol, dipalmitoylethyl hydroxyethylmonium methosulfate, Fragrance, myristyl alcohol, Sorbitol,, cetearyl alcohol, cetrimonium chloride, BHT, Citric Acid, Coumarin, Sweet Almond Oil, Hexyl Cinnamal (C187400/1)

Price: Rs.75 for 75ml

Shelf Life: 36 months from the date of packaging

How to Use: Take sufficient amount of product in your palm and rub both the palms to spread it. Now apply to your freshly washed hair concentrating on the dry ends. Finally, rinse off with water.

Packaging/Availability: Same as the shampoo.

Colour: This Soy based conditioner is pure white colour wise.

Texture: This conditioner has medium dense formula. Texture wise this conditioner is smooth and creamy. Its consistency is slightly thinner than L’oreal Paris’s Total Repair 5 conditioner. The consistency makes it very easy to spread on the hair.

Fragrance: The fragrance of this conditioner is similar to the shampoo. The smell is just a bit deeper than the shampoo. It is going to stay in your hair for a day and the next day it will vanish without leaving any tress.

Suitability: Like the shampoo, this conditioner is best for normal to moderately dry scalp people who have naturally straight hair. Oily scalp people may find it overly moisturizing while for the very dry scalp it may not feel sufficiently nourishing.

Effectiveness: Like the shampoo, I have been using this conditioner for 55+ days. This conditioner gives enough nourishment to tame my freezes for one and a half days. But it does not do anything very notable with the flyaways and unruly baby hairs in my curly-wavy natural hair. If you are someone with naturally straight hair this product will produce awesome results. It is best to use this product in the humid months of summer when we do not meet with extreme dry weather. One good thing about this conditioner is that, I have to deal with negligible amount of product build-up if I am using it. But, if used in excess, it is likely to give you flat and limp hair. Overall I find this to be an averagely moisturizing conditioner for my wavy- curly difficult-to-manage hair.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION: I would suggest this shampoo and conditioner to someone with normal to dry and preferably naturally straight hair who is searching for budget-friendly paraben free hair wash and conditioner. People who eat, sleep and drink vanilla are going to go gaga over these products!
